Shell-ebrating the Finer Things at Press Gang Restaurant & Oyster Bar

Halifax, NS CANADA

Where Every Oyster Has A Story & Every Bite Is A Delight!

Raise your glass and taste the stars! The Press Gang Oyster Bar and Restaurant's fine white wine is so exceptional, it could charm a pearl out of its shell.
My daughter and I embarked on a delightful Girls Weekend and were thrilled to snag a table at the famed Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar. Pro tip: call early to book, as this hotspot fills up fast!

Upon arrival, we were captivated by the restaurant's beauty and charming atmosphere. The ambiance was enhanced by live music, although we were seated in the back and missed the visual of the musicians. Note to future diners: specify if you prefer the lively bar area or the serene dining room. Our romantic dining room setting was lovely, but it slightly muted our ladies' night vibe. For date night, though, this quiet corner would be perfect.

Hailing from Toronto, we often frequent Rodney's, where the oyster-shucking spectacle is a highlight. The Press Gang offers a more refined, fine dining experience, but their fresh oysters from the Maritimes were just as exquisite. Our waiter was an oyster guru, dishing out delightful tidbits about each briny beauty's origin and guiding us through a shell-tastic tasting adventure! Pairing them with their exceptional white wine was a true treat.

The entrees are artfully presented with a medley of gourmet sides.

Our main course was a feast for the eyes and the palate: the Tide and Stride, featuring bacon-wrapped, lobster-stuffed scallops and grilled beef tenderloin with mash potato, pea purée, beet gel, red wine demi-glace, parsnip chips, and oven-dried cherry tomatoes. The presentation was impeccable, and every bite was tender and flavorful.

At Press Gang, the bill is as delightful as the meal—reasonable and without surprises. The wait staff, professional and friendly, make you feel right at home. We dined in the cozy, quaint back dining room, (The Henry Room, maybe...) where the oversized fireplace and melted candle wax on the walls transported us to a regal 1700s castle—minus any ostentation. No stuffiness here, just cheerful smiles and amazing dining. It's like feasting like royalty, but with all the fun and none of the fuss!

Overall, the Press Gang delivered an elegant dining experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Next time, I'll reserve the quiet dining room for a romantic date night and stick to the bar for a vibrant girls' night out. Cheers to more culinary adventures!

Regal ambience without the pretentiousness, just warm smiles and unforgettable dining!
